German cars in the U.S. market

The German car manufacturer to do in the U.S. market known to be extremely difficult. One reason is the relatively high prices, a German car costs compared to a U.S. car. In the U.S., you get $ 25,000 for a vehicle with a top class sizes and excellent facilities. Processing shall it as horrifying.

To unravel the whole I have compiled a list with the consumption of traditional sedans and SUVs in the U.S. of 18 active manufacturers. The result is relatively clear: Only once is a German car, the most economical and the last position occupied almost continuously, a German supplier - a "fast" I think rather more frightening than if it were consistently really, but more on that later ...

Let's start with the SUVs. The division into "compact", "medium" and "Full Size" is often difficult for these vehicles and is partly taken only as a relative map. Since then, a 4.7 m-car also times to the "compact", because it still has a 4.9 m. "Full Size" are however continuously about 5m.

• And precisely to the full-size SUVs, which is only available from the established U.S. manufacturers and Daimler (GL) and Audi (Q7) starts, it sadly. • A growing number of small, the choice is much bigger and the distances. The first place the Chevrolet Equinox is mpg by 27. is followed by No. 2 in the Kia Sorento , then at least give Audi Q5 with 23.5. In each case, 23 for Ford and Lincoln. A total of 5 vehicles less than 20 mpg (in descending order): Infiniti, VW, BMW, Acura and - again as the last - with 18 mpg Mercedes (even with a hybrid you end up only 22!). Lexux it creates with the RX hybrid way, just return to the 1: 29mpg. Toyota Highlander Hybrid one behind it.
• compact SUVs are an issue that the U.S. producers ignore the past. First of Kia Sportage 26.5 mpg (yes, the winner needs more than a class about it!). Still awfully Toyota are (25), Honda (24) and Hyundai (23.5). The rest hangs out at 21mpg. Only the Mercedes GLK is again far: 18.5 mpg.

• The "Full-Size Cars" and the European upper class have only the common size, but that this makes the consumption, so you can mix the whole. With the engine power, the German premium brands can sell that is not too great. The assignment of the Honda Accord (the U.S. version is much larger than the European!) is relatively heavy, but since he was at Honda called full-size, we take him there once. It is this is by far the most fuel efficient mpg to 28.5. No. 2 in the Toyota Avalon 24.5. Third at 24 is the Chevy Impala . Down to about 20, it is all very tight, then where Audi (22) and BMW (21) are good about it. The last place once again he has Mercedes, but at least it shares with the Cadillac DTS - mpg both 19th Mercedes hybrid with other 22 mpg.
• The "upper middle class" is in this form in the U.S. not many cars the Japanese manufacturer are in size but comfortable in it. Best would thus be either the above-mentioned already Honda Accord or BMW 5 Series (the only German car with a top ranking!) with 27 mpg. Audi A6 is the _alten_ at 25.5 mpg, Mercedes again - guess sometimes it ... at the back. 20.5 mpg, with Acura. Lexus makes other 23 mitm Hybrid (just a half longer than without ...).
• The real middle class, of course, use almost any manufacturer. The best value is here - wait for it - to Korea. Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima at par 29.5 mpg. 28 sucking the Ford Fusion (has nothing to do with its European namesake). Amazing that calculated by the then still is a hybrid. At the back once more Mercedes with 22 mpg, but far from alone. Acura 22, Lincoln 22.5, 23 Lexus, BMW 23 - here, the power well but then takes revenge. The old VW Passat is the way good "swim". The new one is put on the other hand, a cheap ... Sicken we aspirated the Hybrid, we are mpg for Ford and Lincoln at 38.5 (beats every small car!). Kia sounds of 40, but can still deliver nothing, sister brand Hyundai contrast, only speaks of 37mpg ...
• lie in the compact class, the strengths of the German manufacturer, right? Far from it: the BMW 1 Series, there is only as a coupe, which is light years away with 23 mpg on the music. Little better the Audi A3 at 25th The Mercedes A-class saves the Americans will prefer the same. Right at the front are the distances so small that I once ascending the first 6 collections: Ford, Chevy, Toyota (all 30 mpg), Honda (30.5) and in front again Hyundai and Kia with 31 . At Ford, incidentally, is a model change, which is in talk with a lot of Tam-Tam from consumption, which could all go forward. Hybrid king is of course the Prius at 49.5 mpg, which is also by far the best overall value.
• And buy small cars but only German ... Well, they only export them! There are in the U.S. market * NOT ONLY * small car of a German Manufacturer. No Opel Corsa (there would be a Buick), not a VW Polo, Audi A1 no. The class win by the way - Hold on! - The Ford Fiesta . 34.5 mpg. Second is the Toyota Yaris (32.5), almost anything is mpg at 31. Only the Honda (where "fit") is 30 mpg last. This could change the Chevy Sonic the order. 37mpg's by Hybrid Honda CR-Z.

German manufacturers totally ignore, but that they actually have from the European market a big lead in the construction of small and fuel-efficient cars. VW equips a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated engine with much that has as much power as a 1.4 liter TSI. The Tiguan there is only the most Motor, which is also in this country quite a drunken car - Class Champion Kia is on the other hand simply satisfied with less power. Mercedes starts on most models from 3 to 3.5 liters of displacement, S and GL is it even until 5l - is offering a C180 in the U.S. appears to be below their dignity.
